Arne Slot Asserts He Is Safe and Has Liverpool's Backing After PSV Loss
The Liverpool head coach conceded that it was expected for concerns to be raised about his future after a further convincing loss against PSV Eindhoven.
The Reds endured their ninth defeat in twelve games, representing the team's poorest streak since being relegated in the 1953-54 season.
They were outplayed by the Eredivisie champions on a difficult night at their home ground.
“I feel secure, things are alright, I've received plenty of support from above,” Slot commented.
“It's important to reverse this trend and earn three points naturally but if you are coaching a team and not doing well then it is normal that doubts arise.”
He continued, “I am OK with my position. It is not the first time I've found myself in a challenging situation but it's necessary that we turned it around.”
Talks with The Board
When asked to elaborate on his conversations with the Liverpool hierarchy, the head coach explained:
“We talk a lot. They assist for the squad and for me and we discuss these matters but they don't phone me all the time of the day to say they trust me.”
He mentioned, “During our regular discussions I perceive the confidence. But I haven’t spoken to them since this game yet so we'll see.”
Familiar Issues and Squad Reaction
Slot expressed regret over known shortcomings from his team in their European loss, specifically wasted chances and defensive lapses.
Meanwhile, midfielder Jones was more forthright in his assessment of the club’s predicament.
“I haven't got the solutions. Frankly, I don’t. I'm telling that to everybody,” Jones stated.
“It's simply not good enough. I don't have to wait to consider it. I'm beyond being angry internally. I've reached the stage currently where I simply lack the words.”
He added, “It’s hard because I play for the club I love. I support them, and I’ve seen Liverpool since I was young.”
“In recent memory, I've not seen a Reds side experiencing a spell such as this with performances this poor.”
He stated, “But we still have the emblem on our chest. And as long as it is removed, we'll continue to fight.”
“We will attempt to bring this squad return to its rightful place, demonstrate to all once more the values of this club and the reason it's called the greatest side in the planet.”
“At this moment, things are bad and it must improve.”
