The Red Devils Set to Secure Germany Forward Lea Schüller from the Bavarian Giants

Manchester United are on the verge of completing the signing for prolific German striker Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.

A Major Acquisition for the WSL Side

Schüller, who has half a year left on her contract, is known as a consistent goalscorer for both club and country. She has scored more than 100 goals for Bayern and scored 54 times in 82 caps for Germany. Her arrival will be seen as a marquee signing for the WSL team.

Departure from Bayern has been anticipated after she was seen fighting back tears while thanking the club's supporters following a victory over Bayer Leverkusen recently.

It was reported in late December that the German women's top flight was set to lose one of its top strikers. Per multiple sources, the formalities for the transfer are now finalised.

Consistent Goal Threat to Boost the Attack

The experienced striker's signing should represent a significant boost to United’s attacking options. Schüller has been remarkably reliable in front of goal in the Bundesliga.

  • For seven consecutive seasons, including the last term, she achieved at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
  • She won the Golden Boot in 2021-22 season with 16 goals.

Building Momentum at Old Trafford

Securing the German international comes at a time when United appear to be gathering positive momentum.

Their recent performances feature qualifying for the Champions League knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a victory in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.

In the transfer market, the mid-season window has brought further business:

  1. The signing of Sweden right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
  2. The contract extension for Japanese midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, who has become fan favourite since joining in 2023.

On Miyazawa’s extension, a senior figure commented: “Miyazawa is now a vital component to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and skill enables her and the team to dominate play from the middle of the park.”

The new defender, having arrived from a side from the American league, said: “You can feel how much they [United] have grown in the last few years, playing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and performing in the top European competition.”
