The Renowned Musician Urges Backing to Get Together for Palestine Track to UK Christmas No 1.
A campaign is aiming to propel a Palestinian lullaby to the peak of the festive singles chart. The effort aims to provide aid to Gaza's residents while also highlighting Palestinian cultural expression.
An Opportunity for Unity and an "Surprise Victory"
Musician and artist Brian Eno, who performs on the track, stated that the release called 'Lullaby' represents a moment to show solidarity with Palestinians over the Christmas period. He remarked the potential for an unlikely festive coup.
“That would be amazing if that happened, yes,” he commented. “I’m not gonna be completely disheartened if it doesn't manage to, festive releases are a category of their own.”
Defiant Message of Self-Determination
Palestinian singer Nai Barghouti, who features in the version of a folk song called Yamma Mwel El Hawa, explained the track's powerful central theme.
“The song holds a deeply meaningful spot for countless listeners,” Barghouti explained. “The essence is that I would choose to perish with honor than live a life without freedom. That is the core idea of the song; we desire to exist a dignified life that we deserve as Palestinians.”
Track's Background and Featured Artists
The song was recorded following a major charity concert held in late summer. Initially planned to be done as a live recording, the piece was cut from the show due to time constraints.
The diverse array of musicians featured on Lullaby includes a range of acclaimed names from the music world. All participated in the September show, which managed to collect a considerable total for humanitarian aid.
Final Touches and Availability
Lullaby was brought to life by a team of talented individuals. The song features a fusion of the heritage language with contemporary English verses.
The group managing the project have stated that their goal is to collect the highest amount for a charitable pot. These donations will be allocated to Palestinian causes through an partnering humanitarian organization.
“We don’t have a fixed goal,” a spokesperson explained. “We will pursue as much as possible. Obviously, the more the merrier. Every penny goes out to Gaza.”
The context in the region was described as its profound destruction, with a vast majority of infrastructure reportedly destroyed or damaged.
“Against that backdrop, a few million is unlikely to make that much difference. But I think the significant factor is first of all spreading knowledge of this plight and proving the human dimension of the story.”
The song is launching on Friday. Additionally, a complete film of the benefit event will be made accessible to view on a digital service from the 19th of December.
